Couple Bonding Time: Watching Sports Together

Football is a sport that I have come to love during the last ten or so years, but I must admit the NBA Finals this year has really kept my attention. I tend to do a lot of commenting on it on Twitter while watching the games and I got a lot of attention from the fellas—they love a girl who can discuss sports and know what she’s talking about.

As an only child, I grew up in a household where my father wanted a boy. And since he didn’t have one, he would have me sit with him during basketball, football, and boxing. I really didn’t care to watch, but it made my dad happy so I went along with the program. As soon as I got old enough to have other things to do during this time, I stopped watching sports with my dad. I had things to do and people to see! Since I became an adult, I found myself watching more and more sports on television, especially football. I found that my knowledge of sports helped me in relationships and became a bonding experience for me and my significant other.

Sports is a really huge entertainment avenue, and being able to enjoy watching sports with one another can act not only as a time-sharing and bonding tool, but can bring the two of you closer together. There is no man on the face of this earth that is into sports that doesn’t appreciate a girl that not only enjoys watching the game, but knows the terminology and method behind it. If a guy had a choice of sitting with his boys or staying in with his girl who is an avid sports fan (and who happens to look good in his favorite jersey), we all know who he would choose!

I have friends that hate watching sports with their men and husbands and only watch the Super Bowl with them—and that is to enjoy the commercials. To this I say, girl, you better start putting in some time with him watching these games, because if you don’t, surely there is someone else who will.

I am not saying that you have to be up on every game scowling at the opposing team every week. But I am saying show some interest. It will go a long way, and he will thank you for it.

Contrary to popular belief, more and more women are into sports these days. Watching a great game with your boo can make a great evening of fun for the both of you!

Cubicle Chicks and Dudes, what do you think of bonding over a game? Can it bring couples together? Speak on it!

My wife loves football. And for the life of me, I can't fully get into it. I can watch it on a game-by-game basis, but I can't sit up and watch the whole season game in, game out.

Basketball? That's a whole other beast. I haven't been into it for years. But this is the sport that I've gravitated to. My wife, being the competitor that she is, we have watched every Finals game. Well, at least up to the beginning of the 4th quarter. (You know how late those games be on…)

But we can discuss it, argue about it, hold grudges and laugh about it. So it's cool that we can share the game… Too bad I can watch those Romance movies…

I know that's right, love it when a woman watches football with me and I get even more turned on when she actually knows what's going on. Great post!!!

One of the best qualities of my wife is her love of ALL sports. All meaning anything and everything competitive from football, which is awesome, to baseball, which sucks. Even better she understands all of the storylines associated with each event. During the winter Olympics she'll sit and watch every single curling match if she could.

It's great because it gives us a great platform to connect and share with one another. Now that we have a youngin' coming up, all of us spend large amounts of time playing soccer in the backyard or shooting hoops at the local YMCA. He'll likely be the biggest beneficiary of our mutual appreciation for sports.

I am the quintessential girly girl who just doesn’t like sports. I find basketball, baseball, and football quite boring and I always have boyfriends that are sports fanatics. If I happened to be around while a game was on and the guy wanted me to sit with them, I made sure I had a few issues of of Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, and Cosmo on hand to keep me busy. If I ever get married, I’ll hook my hubby’s man cave up & keep the hot wings and beer coming just don’t ask me to watch the games, lol!

Well first I am married, and have been for nearly 18 years. My husband is a huge sports fan. I am not. Growing up I watched football and basketball, had my favorite teams but I grew out of it. Hmm not so sure I would recommend developing an interest in sports to get a man. I think such actions would set the tone for ones relationship. I am a bit of a female chauvinist. I believe men should cater to women. So the idea of learning about sport to obtain a man sounds a bit desperate to me. To be honest my husband would probably appreciate it if I had an interest but at the same token I would appreciate it if he truly had an interest in hearing about all the fab designer sales that I attend. But the honest fact is he has interest in designer sales about as much as I care about the Super Bowl. With that said I love my husband, he has his interest and I have mine.

For the most part, I don’t watch too many games during the season…Football or basketball…I’ll watch a few here & there…But NBA playoffs & finals I get more excited about…Those are the games I normally watch with my sig other…We politic about whose game is better, who is going to win, the latest sports news related to playoffs or finals…It’s fun to debate…We drink & watch them together…I used to be a JORDAN & BULLS finatic when I was younger…That all changes when Mike hung up the jersey…The fact that I was once in love with basketball has made it easier for us to bond on basketball…GO MAVS! HAHA
