#LiftYourVoice with Melody Ellison™ and American Girl® (Sponsored)

#LiftYourVoice with Melody and American Girl

The following post is sponsored by American Girl and Womensforum.
American Girl dolls are geared for girls ages 8 and up.

When it comes to purchasing toys for my child that can help her learn, grow and understand the world around her, I look to items that can offer teachable moments. Since first becoming acquainted with American Girl in 2011, I’ve appreciated the learning that comes along with many of the BeForever™ characters. The history lessons given through the dolls, books and videos help my child expand her horizons and her understanding of days past.

Because of this, my daughter and I have been anticipating the release of the latest BeForever character from American Girl, Melody Ellison. As avid fans and collectors of AG dolls, Melody is a girl close to both of our hearts. She’s a 9-year-old girl growing up in Detroit during the civil rights movement, and wants to use her voice to inspire others to lift their voices for equality. My daughter is coming up during a different time, but still can relate to Melody in so many ways.

With a ’60s style and flip hairdo, Melody is an automatic keepsake. Not only does she showcase the style of yesteryear, but she is also a role model for today’s girls who want to inspire others to make positive change.

Melody’s story is centered around a young lady who wants to help make sure everyone is treated equally, and enjoys singing Motown tunes. Your daughter can get to know her more by reading the the books in her series, including No Ordinary Sound, Never Stop Singing and Music in My Heart.

Beforever Melody books from American Girl

In celebration of Melody and American Girl, AG has created the Lift Your Voice With Melody campaign. It encourages American Girl fans to share their photos and videos of how they’re speaking up to make a difference. Starting August 20, fans can watch the Lift Your Voice with Melody video and then share their own inspiring videos and photos, using #LiftYourVoice on social media.

Additionally, at American Girl retail stores across the country from August 26-28, girls will have an opportunity to listen to the soundtrack of Melody’s life—Motown—and will be immersed in her world with special block party food and décor, free crafts and receive a free Melody-inspired doll tee while supplies last. Check your specific store location for exact details and event timing.

Parents and teachers can also get free downloadable Melody Learning and Reader Discussion Guides at americangirl.com, which explore themes and issues from the 1960s.

My daughter and I are super excited about these events and can’t wait to participate. Together, we can hopefully empower one another while creating more memories.

I love how American Girl takes their dolls and uses them to educate girls on different historical times and cultures.

I have a friend who’s daughter loves these dolls. She has two of them and she plays with them quite a bit. I bet she would love this one too.

I remember when American Girls were simply stories of girls from different backgrounds and experiences designed to empower young girls….oh how things have changed with the books being in the background and the dolls in the forefront. Makes me feel very old, ha ha!
