Would you ever have cosmetic plastic surgery?

I was talking to one of my girlfriends this past weekend about her back issues, which she attributes to having a large chest. I have known her since we were teenagers and she is always had an ample bosom area—something most people notice first. She has always loved her breasts and their Dolly Parton-esque size, but over a late night meal, she told me that she wants to go under the knife to get rid of some of the extra weight of her breasts.

So it got me to thinking—would I ever have cosmetic plastic surgery?

I’ve always said I wouldn’t. I have heard horror stories of the things that can happen to you while under the knife–Kanye West’s mom is one example of a tummy tuck gone wrong since she is no longer with us. I’ve been taught to love my body and all of the skin it may be in

Of course there are some areas I would like to tweak. No matter how many sit-ups I do, I can’t seem to get my tummy as flat as it was pre-baby. If plastic surgery were an option for me, I can’t say that I would rule out not having it to firm up my tummy area.

According to THIS website, 355,671 women in the U.S. had a breast augmentation in 2008. Over 340,00 had liposuction.

There are so many pros and cons associated with plastic surgery, especially since it doesn’t always improve one’s looks. In the case of Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, who two weeks ago, unveiled what appeared to be a new “plastic” look while performing on Fox’s American Idol, the knife isn’t always a positive. Fergie looked a lot better before, and while I am not 100% sure she had work done, her shocking appearance clued me in that something was indeed up with her face.

I should add that if Fergie did go under the knife recently, it’s not the first time. Her pictures from when she was younger are a lot different than what she looked like when she began fronting the BEPs’.

So the question begs: would you ever have cosmetic plastic surgery? Would you go under the knife to correct your supposed “imperfections”?

I have a friend who had breast reduction surgery because of her back problems (which I don’t really consider cosmetic, simply because it really can become a major health issue re: back pain). I have a few friends who have had facelifts (not generally good) and breast augmentation. As a small busted woman, I used to think I would get implants if I could afford it…but the older I get, the happier I am with myself and am so glad I didn’t do it when I was younger. That said, I think, as my face starts to age, I might consider a little Botox or collagen (does that count as surgery?) but, as someone who has had more than a few non-elective surgeries for health issues, I simply couldn’t face elective surgery.

WashingTina, thanks for commenting. I don’t consider Botox or collagen plastic surgery but more like a cosmetic procedure since it’s usually done in the derm’s office. I still cannot fathom putting a form of poisonous matter in my face, but I know it’s something that is done a lot, even more than plastic surgery.

If I got burned in a fire, yes.

Would I put myself at risk when I am perfectly healthy now? No.

My 10 yr old daughter says, “I don’t understand why a perfectly fine and normal person walks into a doctor building and then comes out looking like a barbie doll.”

Mister Rogers loves me just the way I am – shouldn’t you?

As someone who just recently had a breast reduction I can honestly say that was the most painful experience of my entire life. I too had tons of back and neck pain. I went from a GG to a C cup. And while I’m happy to be having nights where I can sleep now, I can honestly tell you, I would NEVER recommend someone to do it. People/doctors don’t tell you about the healing process. They just say oh it will hurt but you’ll love it after the pain. The don’t tell you that you can’t even use the bathroom w/o help. They also don’t tell you about the depression that sinks in. Yes, I’ve considered a tummy tuck plenty of times but after undergoing a breast reduction, I pray to GOD as to not even needing my tonsils taken out. My suggestion, do the research first. Speak to people who have done it and don’t make the decision off of looking good rather than can I endure this brutal pain for the entire healing process. Just my opinion 🙂

If something really bothered me I would get plastic surgery, but I am really paranoid about having a bad surgery that would make things worse! I was just writing about celebrities that look worse after surgery, so if they can’t get it right, what about me? I hate the idea of getting older, so I can foresee wanting to get something done one day.

I saw Fergie when she was on “American Idol” and she didn’t look like she had done anything to me. I just noticed she was wearing a wig, and her face doesn’t look as harsh as it used to, because her eyebrows aren’t as raised up and she’s not as overly tan as before.

I have had it and I would do it again. It was not really cosmetic but it was plastic surgery. Now that age is setting in, I could use a little lift to these puppies again. Yep it hurt but I remember running miles within a month or so of my surgery.

People today have long realized that they do not need to suffer from any dissatisfaction in the way they look. Any body part which does not meet the standards of beauty can be changed in a matter of hours.

Why live asking why you look like this and that when you have the option to completely change whatever you think that is making you ugly?

I have a friend that considered going under the knife for a long time not because of vanity or if she has low self-esteem, but, because she is having a major back pain which I consider to be an issue since it’s health-related.

Fergie is being rather famous for her Plastic Surgery Jobs, which she used to perform not on stage but on her body parts , then for her songs. She has totally transformed herself. She has gone under the knife many times and made her body a testing laboratory in past ten years! She said that, she would be open to Botox but the rumor about her Plastic Surgery is completely untrue.
