Cubicle Life, Healthy Living/Eating, What's On the Menu? · January 27, 2010

I’m A Foodie But Not a Chef!

I am not much of a cook. Don’t get me wrong, I do know how to cook. But I am limited on the items I make, one because my son especially is really finicky when it comes to food and two, I haven’t been exposed to a lot of home cooked dishes. Growing up, my mother seldom cooked. We ate out almost every day. And when she did cook, it was something fast and easy and like tacos, hamburgers, spaghetti, and I find myself making those same items for my children at home too.

Don’t get me wrong. I make a mean Hungarian Beef Skillet Stew, and I can throw down on tuna casserole, roast, and other assorted goodness. But my skills are limited to 20 dishes at the most.

I have even tried watching the Food Network and searching for recipes online, but I also need a real life option for food and meal ideas. I don’t have a lot of time to be slaving away in the kitchen, and my kids have so many acitivies (as do I) that I need meals that are quick and fast, yet tasty and healthy too.

In order to break me out of the pattern of making the same meals everyday, I’ve included a gadget in which you can link me to your blog and/or online recipe that is family friendly and tastes good! I know there are plenty of bloggers out there that have great recipes and menus, and I want the opportunity to introduce new meals to my family.

Simply put in your name and link to your blog (where it says Blog Fodder) about recipes or a link to a recipe on the blog or website you think my family would like. Also leave a comment so that I know you linked!

I am looking forward to seeing what new recipes I can try out and will also be blogging about them as well!

Check out my goodness-

We sound a lot a like when it comes to the kitchen. My mom didn't cook much either, when we were old enough to learn she was working a full-time and 2 part-time jobs, she worked 7 days a week while I was in high school. She would "cook" TV dinners or pot pies, or Shake and Bake.

I feel like I am not providing enough healthy meals for the kids. We eat the same rotation of 10 things. I need some new things to try 🙂

This is a great idea. Please do share your culinary adventures and the results. I have to admit that I'm in the same category,. I enjoy eating waay more than I do cooking. So while I enjoy a variety of exotic meals, when it's my turn to create, here comes the pasta. lol.
