I read so much online about natural hair. I am actually going through a transition phase myself from relaxer to natural, so I have really been studying up on how to keep and nurture a natural mane. My daughter Laylah has very curly hair which is thick and course. Tonight, I washed her hair with Creme of Nature Professional Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo Kiwi and Citrus.
Here are the fantabulous results:

Good job for a beginner.

Woooo weee!!!! Good luck with that. Mine wasn't that curly when I was little, but it was thick and long like that. My mom tried PCJ and other child relaxers, it was like putting cookie dough on my hair. Didn't do a darned thing.
I think the stylist I've been going to is trying to get me to go natural, on the sly. I haven't had a full relaxer since December, I had some on my front edges in January, and when I thought I needed a relaxer last week, she said no, and got my edges straight anyway, LOL.

It is a struggle dealing with my daughter's hair on a daily basis. It takes a lot of prayer. I plan on keeping her natural.

My stylist did the same thing to me! She tried for years to get me to stop getting relaxers. Almost two years ago when I decided I wanted to try a weave, she told me it was best to not get a relaxer because it's easier to cornrow natural hair and the pulling would make relaxed hair break off. We did a mini chop nearly up to my ears a year ago to get rid of old relaxed hair. I took out my weave a month ago and my hair is now past my shoulders.
I love that my hair is restored and healthy and THICK, but it is a struggle working with my natural hair! I may have to go back to weaves LOL!

Luvs this subject.. This is my thang! I have been a NaturalHairstylist for 23 years.. I am currently attending cosmotology school and learning so much more info about natural hair. What I’m finding out is that no matter what texture or style u have..it boils down to one thang..TAKE CARE OF IT!!! FYI- Limit the heat and add moisture..meaning not waiting 2 weeks to shampoo your hair!! Weekly is the key to moisture sealing in to the cuticle.(Women of color seem to go even longer!!)And them flat irons on 400.. That’s hot!! Burning the hair shaft..overtime it weakens if not properly treated, ceramic is good but its also a stone so you should deep condition and trim them dead azz endz! 4-6 weeks It aint heathy hair wit broken choppy ends!it grows and breaks off!,so quit holding on to nothin.. Last but not least if chemically treated hair stick with the upkeep of that chemical service so the hair can be treated appropriately..There are only 2 products for natural hair that I use on my clients one is Miss Jessies and other Carols Daughter..I will be using the KimbleHairCare this weekend, I got samples and loved it!! Its not for everyone but works well when used correctly..And Try to stick with one line of product, it usually gives u better results.. Really be 100% when choosing a style weaves, braids, twist or chemical service like relaxer texturizer color, know that it is a commitment, and what you put into it is what you will get out of it.Time and Money is valuble to everyone these days so choose wisely..

I have a hard time with my son's hair. He doesn't like doing anything to it beyond running a "rake" (pick) through it so we keep it very short. He has wonderful hair, I'm jealous of it even, but to me it isn't worth the hassle if he isn't ready to put any effort at all into caring for it. When he gets older, he can do whatever he wants but as long as I have to do all the maintaining then it's going to be pretty much maintainence free.

I'm a natural girl as well! I LOVE IT!! Occasionally I get frustrated (usually on the wash, blow dry, chi flat iron/pressing comb days), but I absolutely LOVE the versatility. My hair is long and thick so a GOOD blow dryer is a must when straightening. Oh- and unfortunately my hair is more wavy than curly so if I want to rock a huge and glorious 'fro, I have to pre plan it and use those rods to curl it really tight- then 'fro it out with my hands- which is more work than it should be. Good for you for keeping your little one's hair natural. Little girls with perms are a pet peeve of mine. It may be smooth and sleek when they're 6-8, but by the time they're 10 most of them are almost bald around the edges! For what? My thoughts- if you're too lazy to maintain it, have it braided into a nice, neat cornrow style that will last a few weeks.

Awww look at Laylah lol cuteeee. I see you trying to become a pro. I would suggest that you try to use more natural products on her natural mane. Just for me and creme of nature products still contain chemicals that aren’t so good for your hair. Also try to deep condition her hair once a week or every 2 weeks by putting on a intense conditioner with a plastic cap and let it stay on for an hour or so. Make sure to rinse conditioner out with COOL water.

I was natural for year then I relaxed my hair, 5 weeks later when I needed a new relaxer I realized that the reason I went natural in the first place was to avoid the cost in dollars and time doing my hair so I shaved it again. I love it and there are so many great products to maintain it.

She's a cutie and her hair is beautiful!! I know better than anyone that dealing with long, thick, really coily hair can be difficult. But still. It always PAINS me to see little girls with relaxed hair. It really does. I feel like if you're unable to manage coarser or thicker hair daily, keep it braided! Something low maintenance that doesn't involve using chemicals to alter the texture of a child's hair.
