My 5 Favorite Outerwear Styles

When I moved from Florida to St. Louis ten years ago, I hated coats. I thought they were cumbersome items that took away from the overall look of my outfit. Now that I am accustomed to the cold weather and wearing coats, I have come to admire a good looking coat, jacket, or blazer.

Here are my top 5 favorite outerwear styles:

Pea Coats

Pea coats are my addiction. Anyone that knows me know that I have many pea coats in all colors and lengths. I adore my candy apple read waist length coat from Old Navy. But I’ve also fallen in love with my white pea coat from Banana Republic. Whatever the manufacturer or the color, pea coats are most awesome and surely won’t go out of style.

Jean Jackets

I’m such an 80’s Baby and my jean jacket fascination is troubling. I love jean jackets and will wear them with just about anything. I have a tapered jean jacket that brings in my waist and makes it look corset like. I LOVE this jacket. I also have a cropped one that is fun and cute. A good jean jacket is your friend!

Cardigan Belted Sweaters

A cute belted sweater with huge buttons and collars are also something cute to wear over a cute shirt and jeans. You can’t wear these sweaters when it gets too cold, but they are perfect for those mild temperatures that don’t exactly require a coat or jacket.

Shrugs

A good draped shrug is something you can pretty much wear all year around. I love shrugs because they are light and fun and you can wear them in the office as a part of your outfit!

Ponchos

I have a love/hate relationship with ponchos. Five years ago, ponchos were all the rage but it seemed like too many people were wearing them and they can sometimes be unflattering to us girls with abundance in the chest area. Now I see that they are back in style and are more tapered and fitting. I cannot say no to a good looking poncho.

So those are my 5 favorite outerwear styles that you are sure to see me rock this year. What are yours?

P.S. I also adore raincoats which I will do a separate post on soon. To view my fab rain boots blog post from last year, click HERE.

I love pea coats, although I’m not crazy about shrugs. I never feel comfortable in them.
