It’s not easy being a Digital Debutante. And with me always being on the go, sometimes bringing my laptop or netbook with me gets cumbersome, especially when I am tooling around the city or I am traveling. So when I received my Motorola Xoom yesterday, it got my full attention. Why, I even tweeted that I think my laptop and my Macbook are now green with envy since Shelby (my Xoom’s name—yes, I christened her) and I have been spending so much time together. It was love at first site!
So far, what I like most about the Xoom is that it is light and portable and fits in most of my purses. I also love that I could like my Gmail account to it, and because I have an Android phone, all of the apps that are available on the Xoom instantly were ported over from my phone without me having to download them.
I am still learning more about Shelby and finding out what she can do. I am looking forward to creating videos with it as well as taking pictures and editing them all on the Xoom.
I will bringing you Cubes and Dudes tips and information about the Motorola Xoom tablet during the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned.
This is a start of a fabulous relationship! 🙂
I, The Cubicle Chick, received a Motorola Xoom at no charge to me for being a Verizon Midwest Mom. My opinions, as always, are my own and have not been affected in any way by the sponsor.
Ashley says
Cool. Is this like the iPad?
The Cubicle Chick says
Ashley, it is like an iPad but it runs on Android and has flash. iPad and iPad 2’s cannot run flash currently. It is also upgradable to 4g speed. iPad and iPad 2 isn’t. So those are the biggest differences in the two. So far, I love my XOOM. 🙂

I just told hubby I was gonna give my nephew my netbook and buy a Xoom! Looking forward to hearing more of you thoughts.
The Cubicle Chick says
Glammy, so far so good. I am still learning my way around the XOOM but based on experiences with mine and Kesha’s in the past, I’d say that you would be making a wise decision to go with the XOOM for your tablet on the go.
glamazini says
Yep, Kesh’s had my mouth watering 1st … then my boss has one (and an iPad, show off) and brings them to meetings. I want to SNATCH it out his hands!

I don’t have an android based phone, but I know that was a big ohh and ahh moment when many got the Xoom and found all would be linked up together and download apps and such. That is one part that is a little harder for me since on my desktop and laptops I am a PC, my phone is iOS, and the tablet is android. I am digging android though.
The Cubicle Chick says
Robyn, do you think you may come over to the Android from iPhone at some point? Inquiring minds wanna know 🙂
Robyn Wright of Robyn's Online World says
I’m not as in love with my iPhone as I used to be, and I’m actually sad about that. I’m going to try some other phones and see what I think of them. Not sure what my cellular future holds…
glamazini says
Come to the dark side. We have cookies. 🙂
The Cubicle Chick says
I am going to sit you in the corner. LOL. 🙂

I am loving the new tablets I just can’t see myself paying for the ipad but I want one. I was able to get the hp touchpad for 99 dollars but sadly it does not come with android and I don’t like the webos hopefully a port will be available soon so that I can get android on it.
The Cubicle Chick says
Kita, I have been hearing a lot about the HP Touchpad. Did they stop making them? What is the operating system?
kita says
They have but they are trying to sell the last few that they have to get rid of them. I was able to get one a couple of weeks ago. It has the webos operating system which is really non existent because it has only a couple thousand apps. I am hoping android can be ported to the hp soon they are working on it.

My XOOM is awesome and I say that not just because I work for Motorola. It’s wonderfully fast and, in my opinion, more user-friendly and easier to navigate than the iPAD (which I got for my mother for Christmas because the Xoom wasn’t released yet). I got 3G/Wi-Fi version when it was first released last March, through work with a little discount. Although I use the wi-fi mostly at home, I do appreciate being able to sit at the hair salon, for instance, and xoom away, or while on long road trips and watching HD quality movies right in my lap, and using my bluetooth headset. And having Adobe Flash is a must! There are sooo many websites that I can’t view on my mother’s iPAD because of the non-flash (just like on my Ipod Touch). The 4G Upgrade is due out real soon, and it will even better!
The Cubicle Chick says
Robin, that is one of the reasons why the Xoom trumps the iPad in my opinion. Being able to see flash when you surf the web is most important. And the Xoom is upgradeable to 4g without buying a new device so it is a better option money wise. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. You are such a cool daughter to buy your mom an iPad!

BTW, if you have not already done so, I suggest downloading from Amazon it’s AppStore app for your android phone and your xoom Eveyday they have a free app of the day which is otherwise not usually free. In addition to all the everyday free apps, you can get some really cool android apps that you may not have even known existed, and when you download to one device, it will notify you on the other device (when you open the app) that you have an app to download to that device as well. I have a Motorola Atrix 4G (L.O.V.E. I.T.!), and it’s neat that I don’t have to do double work to get duplicate apps. Amazon;s app market has just about all of the same apps that are in the Android App Market, too. There is obviously a market play going on with the developers, the cell phone service providers, and which market will have which apps, but having more than one viable outlet makes for happy device owners, imo. Best wishes with Shelby 🙂 You can always FB me or DM my twitter if you have any xoom ?s!
glamazini says
Just coming back through to say ‘Hi’ to our Xoom 🙂 *heh*
The Cubicle Chick says
You are stooopid. Shelby is resting for now. She’s had a long day 🙂
glamazini says
Who named her Shelby? 😐 … as godmother can I get a say in the middle name? I vote for Raquel.
The Cubicle Chick says
And yes, her name is Shelby. Middle name Raquel. I can dig it 🙂
Christina says
Ha! My Xoom’s name is Carmen. 🙂 I’m still getting to know her, too – I got her from my job almost a month ago. So far, I love it! I can’t rely on her to replace my netbook just yet, though…
The Cubicle Chick says
Christina, I agree—I think a tablet is great to use on the go, but as far as replacing your netbook, I don’t think it can. I really enjoy the flexibility with it, though. I grocery shop with Xoom and my list is on it. Very helpful! 🙂
glamazini says
I’m curious … why can’t you get rid of the netbook yet? I’m toying with giving mine to my nephew and grabbing a Xoom. *grabs poppycorn*
The Cubicle Chick says
Well, Glammy, the Xoom doesn’t have Word or Excel, or any of those types of programs so I still need the ability to be able to create documents while traveling or on the go. Which is why I don’t think I can completely rid myself off my netbook. However, I mostly travel with my laptop anyway (the Netbook doesn’t have a CD Rom and sometimes I need to burn things for clients) so for me, it’s the Xoom and my Macbook while on the road. Make sense? LOL.
Candace says
Hey fellow #midwestmom!! There are apps to create documents and definitely Google documents too, what I do is make a document and upload it to google docs because that site can convert almost anything, then if I need to tweak I can download it on the laptop 😉 I do a lot with documents being in college. Another reason I love my Xoom! It ROCKS for college!
The Cubicle Chick says
Candace, thanks for the recommendations. I am such an Office fiend, I need to learn to step outside of the box when creating documents.
glamazini says
Aw … good to know! Tell Ms. Shelby Raquel Glammother Ini said have a great day! (oh you too TCC *heh* )
Robyn Wright of Robyn's Online World says
You need to store your office documents on your Microsoft SkyDrive account (free) an you can access them there and create new ones also skydrive.live.com Just use the browser on the Xoom – not an app
Robin Witherspoon says
Ok…now my Xoom is having an identity crisis. She doesn’t have a name. She has become overly jealous (and stubborn) because she knows all my HANDBAGS have names, and now her new cousin Shelby Rachuel has arrived, and she is feeling some kind of way! I’m thinking Xila (pronounced like Lila) Michelle. Any thoughts? Suggestions? I think if I don’t come up with something FAST she might have total meltdown.
Robyn Wright of Robyn's Online World says
Tell your Xoom not to feel bad, mine doesn’t have a name either, and neither do any of my bags!
