February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Miami Nice: Traveling Around South Beach in the 2014 Kia Forte EX

Disclosure: I was loaned this vehicle in exchange for my social influence and honest review. The opinions in this review belong to me and are not indicative of the companies or brands mentioned.

Miami Nice Traveling Around South Beach in the 2014 Kia Forte EX

It’s been about two weeks since my short vacation to Miami’s South Beach area for a little fun in the sun, and I am still basking in the memories and the fun things we did while on the trip. I am also still suffering from a mean case of sunburn (more on that later, perhaps). What made my visit to Miami even more fun was the usage of the 2014 Kia Forte EX. I was loaned the vehicle so that my friend and I could hit the sights and areas of the city we wanted without having to cab it, and we were so grateful to have a vehicle to use.

With the car, we drove to Miami’s Sun Life Stadium to rock it out with Justin Timberlake and Jay Z at the last show of their successful stadium tour, Legends of the Summer. We also was able to hit Fort Lauderdale Beach, and got to trek to one of my favorite spas for a relaxing massage. (click here to read more about my Miami trip)

What I liked most about the car was it’s exterior. Sporty and fun, yet small enough to be able to maneuver the massive Miami traffic, I was pleased about how nice the car looked. Once inside, I also loved the UVO navigational system, which is like having a computer in your car. With UVO, you can control your phone via Bluetooth, get directions, play music via satellite radio, local channels, and CD. It’s well integrated into the car and works well with everything you do.

The 2014 Kia Forte EX also has some pretty cool features like heated and cooled seats. Yes, seats that actually get cold so you cool off quicker. In Miami, this is quite handy. You can also change the friction of the steering wheel with several options, and each time you park, the outside mirrors fold in, which can help in tight spaces.

The fuel economy for the car is also impressive with 24 city and 36 highway miles.

2014 Kia Forte EX Odometer

The one thing that left me wanting more was the acceleration and kick of the vehicle. I was hoping for faster getup (like what I experienced in the 2013 Mazda3 i Grand Touring), but understand that the Kia Forte is a 4 cylinder vehicle. It does, however boast a 2.0L Gas Direct Injection Engine.

Check out these other features on the 2014 Kia Forte EX:

  • Rear camera display
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Cruise Control
  • Power Folding Outside Mirrors w/ Turn Signal Indicator
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • Xenon HID Headlights
  • LED Taillights

2014 Kia Forte EX

The 2014 Kia Forte EX fully loaded with all of the available features retails for about $25,515.00. You can visit Kia’s website for more information.

I could see myself driving the 2014 Kia Forte EX again—it’s fun, tech savvy, and definitely turns heads.

Thanks to Drive STI for the loaner!
