February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

My Review: The Only Facial in University City St. Louis

Working moms, it's necessary to take care of your mind, body, and soul. Get the scoop on my The Only Facial experience.

I was given a complimentary facial in exchange for my honest review. Opinions are mine.

Let me keep it real—I love to be pampered. As a working mama, I work hard and I want to be able to enjoy myself on my off-time. I also want to be able to take care of myself, mind, body, and soul. So when it comes to spending money on things like massages and facials and other “extras”, I consider it worth every penny.

Luckily, my family does too. They know when mama’s happy, everything goes better for everyone.

When I was given the opportunity to have a complimentary facial experience at The Only Facial in University City, they had me at hello. It’s been a minute since I’ve had a facial. I used to get one regularly at a local spa, but they closed down and I was never able to find the esthetician who made my skin look so good. After that, I was weary of having anyone else touch my face. I tried many skin systems and skincare lines at home, but I continued to have some issues that included breakouts and oily skin.

Then COVID-19 happened and BOOM! Even when things opened up, I was leery about getting a facial. I thought about it, but didn’t pull any triggers.

It was like the skin gods knew my skin needed some attention. I was contacted by The Only Facial and they were able to schedule an appointment for me within a week.

My first thought when I arrived at The Only Facial was how inviting it was. The palette is soft and lush, and the furnishings are feminine with a touch of shabby chic. My esthetician, Jenna, welcomed me and was ready for me right away. She led me into her room and she began my experience with a thorough skin questionnaire.

She asked me everything about me and my skin including what medications I was taking and how I have been taking care of my skin. After the assessment, she began to look at my skin closely with her light and walked me through each step.

I’ve had tons of facials over my 44 plus years, but never one this thorough. I felt that all of my skin care needs were addressed. Jenna also gave me some skincare education. She taught me that when we are younger, our skin rejuvenates itself every 30 days. As we get older, that slows down and our skin cells don’t renew as fast, so in order to get the skin back into that normal rhythm, a facial that includes a series of treatments is necessary.

This is the line-up of services that one receives during The Only Facial experience:

  • cleanse
  • dermaplane
  • microdermabrasion
  • enzyme (chemical) peel
  • microcurrent
  • facial massage
  • brow shaping
  • eye treatment
  • mask
  • antioxidant treatment

Jenna was wonderful and walked through each and every step and told me what to expect before she began each service. I welcomed her recommendations and her warm disposition, as she made me feel comfortable and relaxed.

Her attention to detail and thoroughness was what I needed, and my skin felt so good afterwards. I have issues with hyperpigmentation and hormonal breakouts, and she addressed those concerns and even gave me some pointers. I was thrilled how my skin came out!

The Only Facial includes gratuity, and because they want to give quality service and no pressure, they do not upsell services or sell products. The focus is on giving you a wonderful and fabulous skincare experience.

I have become a fan of The Only Facial and I even made an appointment for next month. Jenna recommends that you get a facial every four to six weeks.
