What I’m Thankful For

My 5 yr old daughter Thanksgiving morning.
My 5 yr old daughter Thanksgiving morning.

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday. There is nothing better than family and spending time with the ones you love. This year, amongst all the turkey and dressing and other holiday fare,  I made a point of thinking about my life, reflecting on what is truly important. It is so easy to get caught up in the holiday media hype surrounding Christmas and Thankgsiving. With all of the commercials and Black Friday sales and whatnot, people (myself included) can get confused about the true meaning of this time of the year. But while I am participating in the shopping and giving and receiving, I am also thinking about how grateful I am. How beautiful my family is, and how blessed we all are.

When I was 18 and my son was about 2 months old, I went into the local Wal-mart because my son badly needed diapers. I didn’t have any money, barely a dime to my name, so I went into the store, got a pack of Huggies, and tried to steal them through the garden department. I was an easy mark, I had never stolen anything in my life and I was subsequently caught. They saw my son in the cart and took me to the office and told me not to come to that store again. They didn’t press charges.

That was fifteen long years ago.

I could’ve been in a horrible situation right now but I’m not. I turned my life around with the help of those around me and now I am in a much better place.

I am thankful that I got the opportunity to better my life and my family’s life. I am thankful that I am surrounded by a loving family who has unconditional love for me and my children. I am grateful that I have two healthy children. I am thankful for waking up this morning and for being able to have a career that I enjoy.

I am thankful for my life.

Happy Thanksgiving. And let’s all of us remember the true meaning of the holiday season. 🙂

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. And yes my daughter knows she is cute. I've been trying to make sure she doesn't get a big head about it. One diva in the family is enough 🙂

What a testimony!!! You better testify, girl! I love that…that you're not ashamed to put it out there so people can see that there is such a thing as reinvention. That life doesn't have to stay dark or trying. I'm happy you're here…Thankful for sistas like you, who show the world what it means to beam brightly in God's blessings. (((hugging you)))

Gee thanks for the wonderful glow, I love that! We have got to meet one day because I find so much inspiration in your words and outlook as well. We all have a story to tell. Some of us want to tell the story our way with edits and mistruths. Me? I have to keep it real. Love ya sis!

I love this post!!! You have many reasons to be thankful, and I am glad that you have overcome your obstacles. You know many blessings flow to genuinely good people. I am thankful for my family and my close friends that have been around since elementary school. I am also thankful for Twitter because not only have I gotten business opportunities there, I have met some amazing people including you. I look forward to our future friendship. : ) Hugs
