Since I’ve begun blogging, freelancing, and consulting, I have found that I tend to gravitate towards others who are also doing their own thing business wise. Human nature usually dictates that birds of a feather flock together—when you find similarities in others that you genuinely like, you are bound to find an attractive synergy that bonds you.
Last month, I traveled to Atlanta for a blogging workshop event with Lakesha, who I met last year, as she was a sponsor of Show Me the Blog Social Media and Blogging Conference. She is the owner of XD Web Solutions and works with businesses and helps them develop their online presence with creating web pages, SEO, etc. I found that while rooming with her and spending time with her that she had a lot of knowledge and input to share and I soaked it up like a sponge. She is a self starter with a great drive and I feel that we compliment one another well.
We formed an instant bond over our businesses and we now consult one another on ideas. Add to the mix my good friend Andrea Amir, who I met at Blogging While Brown last year (and whose conference Lakesha and I attended), and I feel like we have an epic Sister Tribe going on. We are sisters in business for ourselves helping one another reach our goals. After a year or so of doing it all on my own, I have come to find comfort with my new tribe.
Andrea is a sister who is doing big things with her website Smart Money Chicks and she organizes workshops and events that help women learn how to be smarter with money and finances. With someone who is as smart as Andrea in my tribe, I can’t go wrong!
Tribes are very important in business—not only can you bounce ideas off of one another but you can also learn from each others mistakes. Having a sounding board or committee of individuals who you trust and respect is most important when you have your own business. I feel very blessed to have found these two sisters who have helped me in many ways.
Working with a tribe can help your entrepreneurial endeavors—it can give you an advantage against your competition because even though you may be a party of one, you have many voices helping you and propelling you to new heights.

Well, you already know how I feel and I’m glad you created this post because it will let others know how important it is to have a group (whether you call it tribe, mastermind, etc.) to grow in business with.
Doing it alone like you and I both were doing wasn’t helping us (to the fullest extent that is). Now that we’ve found our #sistertribe (love it!), I can’t even stop thinking about the possibilities of things we can create not only for ourselves but with each other!!

Kesha- LOL. I think things happen for a reason and it was meant for us to meet and do business with one another as well as be a sounding board for our ideas and suggestions. There are so many things I want to share with you guys as well as projects we can work on together. I can’t wait for our Skype session 🙂
I do belong to a blog tribe and found it to be a supportive community of like-minded people who work together to help one another. It’s a huge help and it keeps you on track. It keeps you from giving up in times that don’t seem to be going as well as you had hoped.

I definitely have a tribe that I hang out with more than I do my regular friends now since we all have our own business. We meet once a month and talk about our business and ways to improve it. Its fun and usually we end up spending the day together. In fact we are meeting up Saturday. I can’t wait.
Aimee, that is great! I notice that Atlanta has a very close-knit blogging community from what I saw when I was there. Put that with social media and entrepreneurs and you have a winning combo!
Tribes are a great way to build a blog! I am at the end of a blogging challenge (which has been very much like a tribe) and I have seen great changes in my blog, from alexa ranking to many more comments. I wrote a more complete overview on my latest post.

This is a great point. When i first saw this post, I thought it would be referring to the “tribe” in the sense of Seth Godin’s book, “Tribes” (the tribe of advocates for your brand).
I really appreciate the insight you bring in this article to the idea of a Mastermind Group. It is so important to have. I know that when I first learned about a mastermind group, I didn’t know how to build one, so I just went on ahead figuring it wasn’t absolutely essential to my success.
I’ve learned that I was wrong. Having a tribe is essential. It makes the journey so much more fun too! 🙂

Definitely right… I’ve been a lone entrepreneur for a long time, and it’s even lonelier than being single some days. I really need to find more ppl to bounce ideas off, and sometimes to seek support.

You should check out Triberr. It uses the same concept of forming tribes so you can spread your messasge and the messages of your tribe instantly through Twitter.
Hi Terrance, I have already been using Triberr since April and I love it. It has really expanded my blog to readers who wouldn’t have otherwise read my blog. The people mentioned in the post are also part of my Triberr tribe. 🙂
