ABC’s Soap opera ‘All My Children’ is on the chopping block

I am not proud of being hooked on the soap opera ‘All My Children’ but at least I own up to it. I have been watching the daytime drama religiously since the fall of 2008, and I must admit I am completely involved in the storyline. Which is why today’s news of a possible cancellation of the soap is breaking my heart—is this the end of Pine Valley as we know it?

According to MSN, the 41 year old soap opera may be yanked off the air due to ABC reducing its daytime drama arsenal.  Because of a recent plunge in the ratings, the powers that be feel that it may be time for ‘All My Children’ to be given the boot.

Erica Kane cannot be happy about this.

‘All My Children’ wouldn’t be the first soap opera to fall victim to budget cuts and low ratings. Earlier this year, CBS got rid of  its longest running soap opera’ As the World Turns’, and also said goodbye to ‘Guiding Light’ in 2009. NBC also had to shave daytime soap ‘Passions’ from its lineup in 2007.

It’s clear that daytime dramas are no longer the rage—the young and hip are into court programs and talk shows and the soap opera has become a relic of old.

I would hate to see ‘All My Children’ fall by the wayside—Erica Kane (played by Susan Lucci) is the most loved bitch on daytime television, and the AMC cast is probably the best set of actors in the game, hands down. With amazing characters Jessie (Darnell Williams) , Angie (Debbi Morgan), Greenlee (Rebecca Budig), and Cameron Matheson (Ryan), you will be hard pressed to find a group that works so well together.

I guess we will have to stay tuned to see if ‘All My Children’ survives. I am hoping that ABC decided to give the show one more shot—I’m not ready to say goodbye just yet.

What are your thoughts? Do you watch ‘All My Children’ or other soap operas?

I used to be so hooked on AMC. My mom watched it when I was a kid and I of course started watching. By the time I was in 8th grade, I was a die hard soap fan. I had a subscription to Soap Opera Digest, lol. When I was in college, I scheduled my M,W,&F classes so that I would have a break from 12p to 2p. I haven’t followed AMC since late 2008 but I would hate to see the show cancelled. It is such a pop culture favorite.

Kim, my mom watched AMC off and on as a kid so I was familiar with the characters and the story line. It wasn’t until 2008 while at work did I fall in love with the soap and watched it on a regular basis. I really hope they don’t pull the plug on the show! 🙁

I feel like this show is classic television. I don’t watch it but I would be hurt if it got taken away. Simply because I grew up with it! We only have a few shows left as it is!

MissPretty, I am so not happy about ABC wanting to take off AMC. I am hoping that us as fans could save the show. I love me some Angie and Jessie!

We have been watching All My Children for many years. If ABC takes the show off we will cease watching ABC all together. Most of their show are just plain BLAH. If ABC loses some more advertisers, maybe it will wake them up.

Oh my goodness – I’ve been watching AMC since I was a child, b/c my mom and grandmom used to watch it faithfully. Every. Single. Day. I slacked off about 5-6 yrs ago and started watching again recently w/in the last year. Now I’m all caught up and I’d be so sad to see the show go!

PLEASE for goodness sake…don’t CHOP All My Children..and why on earth does viewing on the so-called SoapNet not counted as to how many watch it…that’s not right?? Spice up the show and let Erica do her usual lovely but sometimes nasty things and give her a whirl with Caleb etc etc…and give Bianca a girlfriend ….it has to be modernized a bit…BUT whatever it still deserves to be on and the actual viewer count is not correct…so much for my bla bla and if you need some kick-A…I’d “whirl” at doing my natural/native Italian old lady stuff…so again…get the people to call in or something??:)

I’m sorry everyone, but AMC is WHACK! I’ve been watching for about 10 years and its gotten worse and worse. EVERYONE, if you are not watching General Hospital now, you should start. It’s the best acting on daytime TV! (Don’t judge me)

I’ve watched the whole abc line up for about 30yrs. When work keeps me from watching I keep caught up with Soap Digest. Pine Valley has had some problems with story line but I thought with the whole Angie (blind, pregnant, baby switch) story it would pick up steam! They need to turn Jackson into a villian come on shake it up! Dont throw in the towell the show is worth watching and saving!

this does not surprise me at all. gas prices are crippling us as a nation. Jobs are loss everyday to Mexico, china, ect. Tentions are high people feel beaten down. So why shouldn”t the networks join in on it all and rip away an icon. An important part of our lives that takes us away from our own sufferings for just an hour a day. We should all scream at the top of our lungs. Leave us SOMETHING for Gods sake. haven’t we been forced to give beyond our share already! Hey this is just a thought.

I have been watching the show since I can remember and I love it, I would not like to see it taken off the air because it is a classic. This show relaxes me and allow me so peace after a long day at work. Now why would anyone want to take that from me. Please reconcider this decision,it is a valuable asset to the soap opera family.
