February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Special Dedication: Adele, Someone Like You

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don’t forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,”
Yeah.

—Adele, Someone Like You

Can I say that this song brings so many emotions to mind. As a fan of Adele’s triumphant vocals, I swear I cry every time I hear this song. It’s like there’s a permanent tear tattooed on the track, trickling with her emotion. It’s when I hear the song that I want to melt away—somewhere, be someplace else than where I am.

If this song isn’t the truth, I don’t know what is. SMH.

No more drama.

Does anyone feel where I am coming from? Does anyone drink from the Kool-Aid that is Adele? Isn’t she one of the most brilliant vocalista of our time, of this generation? Each note she sings identifies with my soul. Unkempt.

I love Adele too. Her vocals are so clear and pure. The uncomplicated piano accompaniments allow her talent to shine through which is a welcomed change of pace from other popular music of today. I think that we all have a song that takes us to that emotional place. An emotional wreck and Cancer like me has several.

Zoe, you hit the nail right on the head. I am so glad an artist like her is able to shine amongst gimmicks and gloss of other singers.

I absolutely adore her. She’s a brilliant singer & songwriter. Few artists nowadays are able to evoke such emotion when they sing. I FEEL the emotions when she sings.

I am ashamed I never heard of her before the MTV awards a couple of weeks ago. I have been under a rock I had no idea what I was missing but this song I had to put on my ipod that night. People don’t sing like this anymore.
