Last year when I attended Oprah’s Lifeclass when it stopped here in St. Louis, it was life changing. It was amazing to be in Oprah’s presence, but it was her guest, Iyanla Vanzant, that had my attention during the two hour event. The gems she dropped that evening are still with me a year later, and I’ve devoured everything she’s tweeted, shared on Facebooked, blogged, written, and broadcast ever since. The first season of her OWN imprint show, Iyanla Fix My Life, was one of the most popular shows on the network, and she is back with a new season beginning this Saturday.
Iyanla is not a syrupy sweet kind of talker. She is into truism and gives it to you no holds barred, unfiltered, and uncut. She is known for coming into a situation and acting like a mirror, reflecting a person’s true self to themselves. In exercises and activities that are created to hit home, Iyanla does it. The issue and problems aren’t solved at the end of every program, but more often than not, a breakthrough will have occurred. Last season, Iyanla confronted every regular people like me with their dysfunction, and also helped celebrities like Basketball Wives Miami Evelyn Lozado and actress Maia Campbell. If someone can fix “it”, Iyanla certainly tries and gives her all.
This season, Iyanla will continue to help people make peace with themselves and their situations. During the first episode, she tries to help troubled rapper DMX with his demons. We also see in teasers that former Real Housewife of Atlanta, Sheree Whitfield, will also be assisted by Iyanla to help mend her relationship with ex-husband Bob Whitfield.
My guess is there will be plenty of drama, but hopefully, some action items that can help us too.
The first episode of the new season premieres Saturday, April 13th at 9/8 CST on OWN. You can catch a first look of the episode below.
