February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partn February is American Heart Month, and I’ve partnered with @MedIQCME and Duke Health to raise awareness about atrial fibrillation (AFib), also known as irregular heartbeat which affects 12 million people. My father was diagnosed with AFib and my family has a history of this condition, so I do my best to learn as much as I can about it.

I’ve learned that when the atrium’s squeezing becomes irregular, blood doesn’t flow as smoothly through the heart and clots can form. Those clots can travel to the brain, disrupting the oxygen supply and causing a stroke. People with AFib are at approximately 5 times greater risk for stroke than those with regular heartbeats. Stroke is a leading cause of death and also of serious, long-term disability. It is essential to get to a hospital quickly if you suspect a stroke in yourself or others.Learn the acronym FAST to recognize the signs of stroke:

F = Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A = Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S = Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

T= Time. If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

How to Calm Down and Collect Yourself After Essence Fest

You came, you saw, you conquered. Now that the party is over, I am sharing a how to calm down and collect yourself after Essence Fest. Re-entry is real.

I am sharing this post as a Dove Partner, in collaboration with Blogalicious.

O M G! Each time I come to the Essence Fest, I always feel that I am prepared and ready for all of the action. Despite all of my preparation and experience as a somewhat seasoned pro, I am always overwhelmed by the experience. With so much to see and do, one can feel a little overstimulated.

You came, you saw, you conquered. Now that the party is over, I am sharing a how to calm down and collect yourself after Essence Fest. Re-entry is real.

I spent some time during the festival as a Dove Partner (special shout out to Stacey from Blogalicious for helping to make this happen) getting acquainted with some of their new products and sister-brands, which inspired me to write a list of ways to relax, relate, and release after powering through The Big Easy.

I am sharing How to Calm Down and Collect Yourself After Essence Fest. Read and apply.

Soak and Savor

You’ve been running all weekend from one event to the next, and probably only had time to take showers. Now that Essence Fest is over, it is time to soak and savor. Draw up a nice warm bath and utilize the bubbles and jets as needed. Cue up some relaxing music and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere as you decompress from the fun yet chaotic festival.

Exfoliate

In addition to a long, hot bath, make sure to get in some exfoliation with by Dove Exfoliating Body Polish. Allow it to renew your skin and give it respite from the humid Nola weather and bayou conditions. Treat yo’self!

Moisturize

After your bath, make sure to follow up with a good moisturizer on your body. The gold standard of moisture is still Vaseline, and it never fails. Your lips need a good foundation too.

I fell in love with Vaseline Lip Therapy in Cocoa Butter, which can be used under your lipstick or as a pretty natural gloss alone.

Get sleepy

Late nights and early mornings are a prerequisite for the Essence Fest. Now, it is time for you to recuperate and get some sleep to restore and renew yourself. Utilize essential oils like lavender and eucalyptus to help you get into a peaceful sleep.

Disconnect

You’ve been uploading pictures and videos to Instagram and Facebook all weekend. It’s time to institute a Digital Detox so you can reset and get your mind refocused.

After your pampering session and unplugging, you can bask in the afterglow of the festival. Make sure to favorite your best pictures on your phone to print out or share amongst your squad—I am doing this as soon as I am finished with this post.

Were you at Essence Fest? What was your favorite standout experience?
