Bless You! Spreading a Little Love Makes the World Go ‘Round

AuthorLogoWintertime is almost over, and I don’t know about you, but in my household, it’s been a long one. We’ve had so many colds and coughs and sore throats and fevers in my family, that it’s almost a weekly occurrence. I know this year was one of the worst flu seasons in history, and there’s been so much talk about germs and safeguarding yourself from the things that cause us to get sick. But one of the best things you can do for a family member or a friend is being there for them in their time of need.

I had a girlfriend who was recently sick with the flu and she could hardly move. With two kids to take care of and a home business, she wasn’t able to get up from the bed, much less do anything else. I made her a crockpot full of chicken noodle soup (not totally homemade but that’s another story for another time) and a tuna casserole so that her hubby and kiddos would have food for a day or two. I took everything over to her house (yes, I got a flu shot this year so I felt pretty “protected”), and she was happy that I was able to pitch in and help her out. I had no idea how much of a help I had been to her, but I knew that if I were in the same position, I would want someone to help me too.

Spreading a little love when someone is sick can really go a long way. And you don’t have to make a pot of soup. By sending a note or Get Well card in the mail sending them your well wishes can really make someone feel better. These small acts of kindness can really mean the world of difference to someone.

You can also create a little care package to send over to a friend or loved one while they are sick, filled with items like cough syrup, cough drops, tea bags and a mug, honey, and yes, Kleenex. And if you are afraid of getting sick yourself, you can leave it on their doorstep, wrapped in a little bow, and watch from your car as they collect their package.

Something as a little as a hand-drawn picture by your child can brighten someone’s day who is ill or not feeling well.

Whatever it is that you come up with, make sure it is kind and compassionate and comes from the heart. No one likes to be sick, but knowing that someone has your back and make you feel a little better.

How do you spread a little love to your friends and relatives when they are sick?
