Are You A Beauty Product Addict?

Today, I had a revelation. I am a beauty product addict. There is no way around this one and an intervention may need to take place.

I decided to take out my sew-in weave today and looked in the cabinet in order to get out by hair products for the daunting task of shampooing and conditioning when my 15 yr old son walks in the bathroom and goes, “Is that all of your stuff? It looks like a store!”

I had to take a breath. He was right. I have so many products in my beauty arsenal and I use less than half of them on a semi regular basis. My staples add up to be about 10-15 products, but I find that I have a lot of things that I have bought that I do not use.

It is like those shopping addicts, who buy whole wardrobes of designer clothes and stacks of shoes but always wear the same outfit. Impulse buying. Everybody’s been there. Just perhaps not to such an extent! I could open a small store with my collection of beauty products!

I have two blow dryers, one still neatly boxed yet opened and never used. Why?

I also have two bottles of unopened and unused nail polish remover. One of the removers was still in the Sally Beauty plastic bag as if I bought it and just put it away without ridding of the bag! And get this: I don’t even do my nails, I get them done by a manicurist!

I have hair mousse and have no need for it whatsoever.

Oh, and let’s not talk about the three shoeboxes full of make-up that I don’t even use. Impulse buying I suppose.

I can go on and on but I won’t bore you with the details. When I moved to my new digs, I swore myself I would rid my closet of all of these things that I don’t use but instead of cleaning house, I am collecting more and more things making for clutter.

I believe my obsession with beauty products began when I was about thirteen or so. My mother, an also confessed beauty product hound, used to take me on her shopping treks and hauls and I remember seeing her vast supply and wanting to be just like her. I guess you can say I learned from the best.

I think I need help!

Are you a beauty product addict? Do you find it difficult to go somewhere and not pick up beauty items that you simply don’t need? Sound off in the comment section below. I hope I am not alone!

I'm a beauty product addict, only because I sell Avon. I have makeup, lotions, foot products, etc, that I order every campaign and never touch. Most times, I end up giving it away as Christmas gifts or something, especially the lotions and foot stuff. The makeup, as long as it's not open, lasts for a while. But, after it's open, I try to throw it away after three months because it collects bacteria. You're not alone, sista!

I hate to admit it, but I have a slight addiction to hair products and nail polish. I am dangerous in Ulta. I have to take a look the the O.P.I. polishes and can;t resist them.

Great post! Oprah.com recently focused on a woman who spent $30k on beauty products – crazy!! I'm a beauty blogger so yes I have that weakness as well! But I have to admit I'm much better about the spending than I used to be…

30k on beauty products? That is a bit extreme, LOL. I am addicted but not on that level. Yet! 🙂

I also have an "extra" hair dryer. I bought a really good one for a fantastic price, but it's in my hall closet because my old one still works.

Don't worry about the nail polish remover, you have kids and you might have a superglue emergency someday & you'll be glad you have those bottles.

I'm not too bad with beauty products, at least the full-sized things. My weakness is all the trial packages and travel-sized items. Some of them are just cute, or it's a good way to try new products.

Remember, anything unopened and usable can be donated to a women's shelter. So many women getting out of abusive relationships and leaving with very little or nothing will really appreciate having "extras" like cosmetics.

Also, you are doing your future daughter-in-law a favor by preparing your son to expect to have a total of six square inches of bathroom space after he gets married!

Hi. My name is Sara. I (too) am a Beauty Product Addict. I ALWAYS have been! One of my girlfriends told me YEARS ago, "your shower is like a buffet." … Because of the HUGE selection of shampoos, conditioners, body washes, face washes JUST IN MY SHOWER. That doesn't even cover what's under the sink or in the closet…. AND I have EXTREMELY short hair. There is NO reason for me to buy or have all these different shampoos! & pomades & waxes… I buy and try them ALL. Then there's the nail polishes, make-up (LIPSTICKS, makes no sense as to how many I have!). I think I also own EVERY brand of lip balm there is available. & all 1 hundred brands are in my purse… :/ I can't stop. I've tried. LOL

quoting MJ "you are not alone, I'm here with you!" I never thought of that but now that you mention I do have more stuff than I need and always feel compulse to buy new crap whenever I go the the beauty shop which is crazy since I get my hair and nails done more often than I do it myself.
so a BPA is in order? (Beauty Products Anonymous)

Oh my gosh, no you are NOT alone! I recently wrote a blog post about the exact same topic. I found a way to control my product buying habit… it's called Project 10 Pan

i HAVE TONS OF HIGH END FOUNDATIONS, skincare, palettes, etc. My latest obsession is eyeshadows. So much of this stuff I don't use. I guess it's a problem because much of this stuff is purchased on credit, which makes me have buyer's remorse so I will frequently return items. It's gotten to the point that Im embarassed to go back to the counters with my used product, and the sales girls are beginning to catch on. It sucks because i have a husband and 3 kids, and there is much better uses for my money than makeup!! Any suggestions???
