Family DIY: Create Your Own Mural with uCreate (Review & Giveaway)

Written By: DIY & Craft Contributor, Katie Femia

It seems like everyone loves getting crafty these days! Nothing is better than a fun DIY project, especially if it is one the whole family can enjoy! When I discovered these uCreate craft boards from Carolina Pad, I was instantly smitten by the bright colors and endless possibilities! I couldn’t wait to get started! Not only was I excited, but the bright neon colors and soft, squishy project boards were super appealing to the kiddos who were ready to start crafting as well.

Here is what I first noticed and appreciated about the uCreate Boards:

– They are lightweight
–  Easy to manipulate
–  So colorful!
–  They are available in four colors
–  They would allow for 3D art projects
– They would be ideal for school projects

We decided we would make a mural to hang in the kids room with our uCreate boards. We had recently taken down a picture and wanted to find something to take its place. The uCreate boards would be perfect for some fun, handmade art work!

My first attempt to cut the uCreate board consisted of using scissors, but that was not a great idea. You can not create a clean cut on the uCreate boards with scissors. I would suggest an exacto knife if you can. Therefore, children should be well supervised when doing this project. You may wish for them to trace the patterns they want first and you do the cutting! In our case, that is what we did.

We decided to create a fish/underwater mural since the colors of the boards seemed so bright and tropical! Using clean cut shapes is easiest, as rounded shapes are harder to get a clean cut out of. My children traced the designs they wanted, including the fish and seaweed. I cut. They were able to take marker and add additional details like the mouth, eyes, and bubbles!

A little dab of glue is all it took to make our shapes stick. It was so easy! We then took command strips and attached the entire mural to the wall. Easy peasy! The kids were tickled at the final results, and so was I. The project was simple, allowed for creativity, and was virtually no mess.

The possibilities are endless with these boards! They can be used for school projects, 3D posters, craft projects, etc. They are lightweight, easy to cut and you can use markers or even paint on them. Stickers adhere to them as would any other embellishments you wish.

Curious about cost? Each board costs around $6.00 which is very reasonable! You can find them at Staples and Walmart stores nationwide in a variety of colors.

When we were finished, we saved our scraps and I know the kids can use them again when doing murals or other art projects. The squishy foam is fun on their hands and easy to use. The bright colors will spark their imagination and keep them crafting for hours!

I would recommend the uCreate boards for a fun and family friendly DIY. Head to your local Walmart and grab a few. You will be surprised at everything you can create!
