Going Back To Work After A Three Day Weekend

It can be a daunting task going back to work after a three or four day holiday weekend or vacation. Maybe you traveled to another city and after the apex of a great weekend, you suddenly find yourself depressed when you land back in your town. Or maybe you slept in every day that you were off and now you have to jolt yourself back into reality by awaking early in the morning for a new work week. No matter the case, going back to work after several days off can be a hard chore.

Vacations and days off are a time that we must all use to regroup, have fun, and relax. But when that good time is cut short and reality bites, it often can be a horrible let down. I know I suffered something like this last year when I visited Miami in July.  After spending four beautiful days in a tropic atmosphere, I was in a state of shock when arrived back in St. Louis and had to go to work the next day. It took everything in me not to call off and stay in bed reliving my wonderful memories.

As grown ups, we have responsibilities of course. One of which is to bring in income to take care of ourselves and our families. Most of us have to work in order to do this. We have to keep in mind that while on vacation or enjoying a wonderful holiday weekend, a new workweek is right around the corner.

In order to keep the vacation blahs from happening to you, I suggest taking a day off in between your vacation and your day back to work, and use that day to regroup and refocus. Even though you are not at work, check your emails, return calls, and begin the normalcy of things at a slower pace than how you would if you were in the office. That way, when you go back to work, you are ready to go in full force.

If you cannot afford to take another day off in between your vacay and going to work, try to take a half day. Getting your feet wet before the actual full day performance may help ease you into things.

While on vacation, don’t over-drink (alcohol). It can be hard going back to work when you are getting over a hangover of epic proportions. Drink. Enjoy yourself. But don’t go too overboard.

These are just a few tips to help you rebound from a long weekend or vacation. What are some tips you use to get back into the swing of things after several days off of work. Good luck!

Great tip to take a day off in between getting back from vacation & returning to work. I have found that helps me TREMENDOUSLY. Also, before I leave work for vacation, I make sure I do as much as possible so that there isn't as much waiting for me when I return.

My friends and I use the acronym PVD (post-vacation depression) to describe the overwhelmed and bummed feeling you have when you come back to work. Sometimes it's so bad, I'd almost rather not have the time off work in the first place. ALMOST.

Whether its a staycation, vacation or simply a half day off makes life simple pleasures more enjoyable. At my age, going to the park or gym, making a lunch date, or just going home to take a nap is primecation. In this economy just to have a job not to mention PTO is a true blessing!

I don’t really go on vacation before but my hubby always pushes me to do it at least twice a year, so that I can breathe and take a break.. I’m just thankful..
