Learn How to Assess Your Risk with Bright Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it is time to get to know the new-improved Assess Your Risk with Bright Pink online tool.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Bright Pink. The opinions and text are all mine.

I hope and pray that none of you reading this will ever experience cancer, or will know someone who has.

During the past six years in my family, two of my relatives were diagnosed with breast cancer within two years of one another. I saw firsthand what the disease can do to the body, mind, and soul of women who are both powerful individuals. The way they fought through their circumstances made me proud, and years later, they are both cancer free and standing strong as survivors they are.

My aunt and cousin were able to fight so courageously because of early detection. One of the keys to getting in front of cancer is knowing your personal risk level. Bright Pink’s Assess Your Risk new tool, launched on October 1st, is a digital, interactive quiz online that you can take to determine your risk level for both ovarian and breast cancer. It’s free and easy to use, and can help inspire women to make behavior changes that can improve their lives.

I recently took the Assess Your Risk quiz and found it easy to use, and was able to complete it in about 5 minutes. The questions weren’t difficult to answer and included questions about my age, activity level, drinking habits, and family history. I was given my personalized results based on my answers, and recommendations on how to proceed.

The mission of Bright Pink is to educate women about the importance of knowing their risk levels. It is a proactive approach rather than reactive, which can help save lives with a focus on prevention and early detection. This national non-profit organization launched the original Assess Your Risk quiz in 2013 and has helped more than one million women know and manage their breast and ovarian cancer risk proactively since launching in 2013.

And in my family’s case, early detection is one of the reasons why both my aunt and cousin are still with us.
