Working Mom Chat: Living (and Eating) My Best Life

I've partnered with BabbleBoxx to share my blueprint on how I plan on living (and eating) my best life while being a working mom.

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf ConAgra Foods. I enjoyed unboxing all of my goodies.

Take a look inside my #GoodEats Box, and see why it is the key to me living my best life.

Many of you know that I went back into the workforce after nearly nine years of working strictly for myself.  I must admit that doing so has had its challenges. I’ve had to get used to being at the office at certain time instead of solely working from home. I now report to three higher ups in the company instead of just managing myself. I have deadlines that are distributed to me by a sales and talent staff, instead of deadlines that I create myself. Switching gears like this has been a test for me in a lot of ways. And while I may not be getting a perfect score, after a year, I think I’ve found my groove.

One of the hardest roadblocks I’ve had to overcome has been my fitness regimen. Before working as a full-time Director of Social Media for a radio station, I was working out 5 to 6 days a week and eating properly (meaning I cooked all of my meals and watched my fat and calorie content daily). Now, I mostly eat on the run, or at restaurants where I am often reporting to during live events for the station. There’s always food around, and my discipline has been slipping.

I’ve recently recommitted myself to regular workouts and eating better, and the #GoodEats Box that I received filled with better eating options has inspired me. It is important for me to make my health a priority and a non-negotiable goal. Doing this takes effort, planning, consistency, and hard work, all things that are needed to live my best life.

How am I working to achieve my healthy lifestyle blueprint each day? Here’s a rundown:

Plan it

Without a plan, it’s hard to work towards a goal. You need to know how you are going to do it and what steps you are going to take to get it done. I’ve learned through this whole going back to work process that I have to plan—winging it wasn’t going to cut it. When I plan out how I am going to get my workout in and what I am going to eat, I am more likely to actually follow through than not.

So here’s the deal: I plan out my dinner menu for the week and I try to stick to that as much as possible. This also helps me with grocery shopping, as I don’t fill up my cart with junk that I don’t need. My dinners turn into lunch the next day, because I cook an extra serving. At night, I box it up in my lunch containers so I can take it to work the next day.

On days where I don’t eat leftovers for lunch, I have been opting for cleaner foods instead of the fast food chains that are by the office.

Things that I can pickup in the market like Evol give me a wide variety of real food that tastes oh so good while providing meals with a purpose. Their foods contain nothing artificial and use a minimal use of added sugars, and that gives me something to be proud about.

I am wild about their Cilantro Lime Chicken Burrito, and it has become a lunch staple for me because it is so yummy yet clean with great taste and texture.

Doing so has made me feel better about my choices, and my clothes are fitting better these days, and I am all for that.

Do it

A plan is great, but if you don’t actually work the plan, then you don’t reach your goals. I have been all about doing it lately, and that takes motivating myself. I have a timer on phone that reminds me to move every 45 minutes. Some of you know about my 45/15 Rule for the office—for every 45 minutes of sedentary/sitting down at your desk, there’s 15 minutes of movement. I get up and walk around the office, I take the steps instead of the escalator, I walk to my colleagues desk or office instead of sending an email, and I use the printer that is farther away from my desk than the one right by it.

Living my best life requires me to be proactive and to seek out ways that I can work my plan of being more active and fit. This also means putting my plans in action, and that my friends, takes work, discipline, and consistency. I’m working on it.

Healthy Choice Power Bowls help me do the work because they do a lot of the heavy lifting for me. For my meatless options, I enjoy Healthy Choice Vegetarian Power Bowls like the Mango Edamame. It satisfies my hunger and makes me feel like I am making good decisions. For a meal with meat, Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers are also a good option for me for lunching at my desk.

Prioritize it

Do you notice that the things that get priority in your life always get done? When we put focus and emphasis on things that matter to us, they don’t become a chore—they become a way of life. The same has to be true with our health and fitness. In order for us to make sure we are living our lives to the fullest, we have to give these matters high-priority. Whether its working out, staying active, getting enough sleep, saying no to things that stress us out, etc., making these things important in our lives helps us do them.

Making eating right a priority is high priority for me these days—not just for me, but for my daughter as well. We have been eating one-bowl frozen meals like Birds Eye Veggie Made™ Chicken Alfredo Bowl for weekend lunches—it’s made with premium ingredients and the pasta is made out of vegetables—yes, vegetables! Get excited!

Living my best life is more important to me than ever. Maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle is one of the keys to helping me be the best I can be on the inside and the outside.

I’d like to think that I am leading by example for my daughter, who will have to create her secret sauce one day to live a best life of her own. You can learn how to get the items in my #GoodEats Box HERE.

I think my wife and I would enjoy these meals. She doesn’t always have time to cook a full meal after work, so this may be a good option for us. Thank you.
