As a gal who appreciates a fabulous red carpet, I am all for creating looks that can be worn not only at work, but during after work events. I strongly feel that there is a Diva in all of us—some of us make our Diva a part of our everyday personality. Others need a little help bringing that inner Diva out. I recently received the opportunity to review a slew of Mary Kay® products for their Hollywood Mystique trend, and I wanted to share the look I created with Mary Kay® products as well as show off one of my favorite Fall trends—a bold, red lip.
I must disclose that I haven’t used Mary Kay® products in years. I tend to get in a routine when it comes to my makeup and beauty products and usually buy the same items over and over since I know they work for me. When I first started using makeup when I was in my teens, a friend of mine’s mom was a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant and she was always giving me samples to use. It was with these Mary Kay® samples that I learned how to apply makeup and use colors to complement me and my skin. Back then, there weren’t many makeup lines that included a palette for women of color, so Mary Kay was used a lot in the African American community because they included colors and tones for all ethnicities.
As I grew up, and as other makeup lines began creating colors for the African American woman, I stopped using Mary Kay. So when I recently received a Mary Kay package in the mail filled with goodies, I was elated. And just like back then, the colors were suitable for my skin tone. And while seeing the products took me to a time and place back then, I see how much Mary Kay has improved. Everything I got was trendy, modern, and fabulous.
The look I wanted to create was one that could be worn in the office as well as on an evening out on the town—a look that includes ‘Feminine Details’ with ravishing red lips and neutral eyes.
Everything in my look was created by Mary Kay, except for my concealer (which I use as a foundation) and my face powder (which controls the oil and gives my skin a well-balanced appearance.
The result was something haute and fresh!
