June Book Club Selection: The Coldest Winter Ever

For my first Mama Reads Book Club selection for June, it's time to revisit the urban classic that is The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah.

I’ve been an avid book reader since grade school and Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret, and it looks like you are too! After posting my latest book purchase on my Facebook page, I got over 100 comments expressing how much you loved the book.

Some of you even inboxed me to tell me what I inspired you to read it again, so I thought this would be the perfect time to start a book club. Guess what our first selection will be?

You guessed it! The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah.

This book is an urban masterpiece that most of us could not put down. It’s a classic and so well-written, it was supposed to be turned into a movie at one point. I am not sure what happened to that, but I am happy that I decided to re-read the story of Winter Santiaga and her ghetto fabulous tale of sex, drugs, and growing-up a bit too soon.

If you would like to participate in my Mama Reads Book Club, complete the form below, and you will receive an email with a book club discussion sheet and more.

Mama Reads Book Club

Mama Reads Book Club is designed for busy working moms who want to make reading a priority during their downtime for self-care.

Not ready to commit to the June selection? The form also shows the Book Club selections for July and August as well.

July- Waiting to Exhale by Terry McMillan

August- Flyy Girl by Omar Tyree

You can buy your copy of The Coldest Winter Ever below (and yes, it’s an affiliate link, so I get a small piece of your purchase):

We will be having a Facebook Live Book Club Meeting on Tuesday, June 30th at 7:00pm CST, so make sure to join me on Facebook!

For my first Mama Reads Book Club selection for June, it's time to revisit the urban classic that is The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah.

Need more information about The Coldest Winter Ever? Below is a synopsis:

I came busting into the world during one of New York’s worst snowstorms, so my mother named me Winter.

Ghetto-born, Winter is the young, wealthy daughter of a prominent Brooklyn drug-dealing family. Quick-witted, sexy, and business-minded, she knows and loves the streets like the curves of her own body. But when a cold Winter wind blows her life in a direction she doesn’t want to go, her street smarts and seductive skills are put to the test of a lifetime. Unwilling to lose, this ghetto girl will do anything to stay on top.

The Coldest Winter Ever marks the debut of a gifted storyteller. You will never forget this Winter’s tale.
