Vlog: Have You Ever Had To Fight For Something That Was Rightfully Yours?

In Episode 3 of my Digital Debutante Vlog Series, I discuss an issue that I’ve been dealing with since my father passed away last October. Since my father didn’t have a will, I am having a hard time claiming what is rightfully mine, due to the fact that I am his one and only child. Why? Because there are no documents listing me as his rightful heir. It’s been an interesting 5 months, to say the least!

Please peep the video and let me know your thoughts. If you are reading this on a reader or subscription service email, click HERE to view the video.

I hope this vlog post helps people realize the importance of having a legal and binding will. Please leave a comment on the video or below, as I appreciate your feedback.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and thank you for the reminder that my husband and I need to do a will.
We also need to have things spelled out about our son’s custody in case something happened to both of us.
Praying you can get this resolved and get this stress off of you.

Thanks for commenting, Joyce. No one wants to talk about death or dying, but it’s a reality that one day we will all face. Going through this has taught me alot ond I plan to have everything in place so that my family won’t have to go through what I am going through.

I’m sorry that you are going through this. My father died in Aug of 2000. He did not have a will either. I am also an only child. And like you, my parents had divorced long before. Luckily he had outlined where his insurance, etc. was to go. I don’t remember having many issues getting his bank account funds. However, it has been so long that I just night not remember all the details. I remember going to the bank, etc. And I think that I had to present something proving that I was his only child. I did have to go through a few things with the retirement fund place, but it all got worked out in the end.

I pray that it gets worked out for you very soon, not months from now!

Ugh, I’m sorry that you are going through this. I’ve never had this occur and I know my parents have wills. I do not, but will be working on one shortly now that I have Mr. Flickerbug. I pray that this clears up for you quickly.

I’m surprised that Regions did that. My mom didn’t have a POD but all we did was took her obituary… maybe they were being nice. However, the one thing I’ve been hearing since dealing with my mom’s death is to get a probate attorney…and it is costly and can take a while. However, it taught me to do my will, change my insurance beneficiary from my mother, get a power of attorney since I’m unmarried and I have a health care power of attorney. If nothing else, this drama taught me to get all paperwork in order. I don’t want any questions or issues. Oh and I recently started looking into a digital power of attorney to handle my online footprint.

Just watched your video. Thanks for sharing because it was really helpful, and I am so sorry for your loss. I do have a will, my will came free with my monthly membership with a service called Prepaid Legal now known as Legal Shield, but I got it a few years ago. However, I realized I don’t really know where I’ve put it and nor do anyone else, which is extremely critical so I’m going to change that. Also, I never even heard of POD until you mentioned it, and both my parents bank with Regions. Again, thanks for sharing, thanks for looking out.
