Five Working Mom Self-Care Ideas for May

Another month is here, and its time to get into full bloom. Check out these self-care ideas for May, created especially for working moms.

Ah, May is officially official, and it is a time of rebirth and a time to renew oneself. It’s also time to focus on you, the working mom who is doing everything these days and trying not to miss a beat. Please know that it’s okay not to be on all the time or not to get it right all of the time—do your best, but don’t stress about not doing enough. You are!

Here are a few ways you can pour into yourself during the month. I’m sharing five working mom self-care ideas for May, which will help you rediscover yourself.

Quit a bad habit

Speaking of rebirth and renewal, May can also be about getting in formation. This includes quitting a bad habit like smoking, excessive drinking, overeating, putting yourself down, etc. We all have a list of things that we do on a daily basis that are bad habits.

Let’s take the time this month to retool our mindset and stop doing things that may be a detriment to us. Write down a list of bad habits that you have, then work one by one to stop them.

Use the rubber-band method: place a rubber-band around your wrist, and when you find yourself doing one of the bad habits on your list, snap it. This helps you physically “feel” the habit and helps you to remember to not do it anymore.

Take a hike

I know, this one may sound far fetched, but it can be good for you. I hiked for the first time last weekend and it wasn’t only therapeutic, but good for my mind, body, and soul. My son and I hiked up Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas and it caused me to push my body a bit, but when I got to the top, I felt glad I did it.

There are plenty of hiking trails and areas in just about every city, so try to partake in a hiking session and get your kids, friends, and or mate to join you.

Assess your mental health

We think we have it altogether, but most of us don’t. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and a great time to assess your mental health.

Check with your insurance to see what services are covered on your plan, and book a session with a therapist or psychologist. There is nothing wrong with seeking the services of a mental health professional.

Reflexology

The Mayo Clinic defines reflexology as: the application of pressure to areas on the feet (or the hands). Reflexology is generally relaxing and may help alleviate stress. The theory behind reflexology is that areas of the foot correspond to organs and systems of the body.

This can have great benefits for your body and aid to some positive results. Try a reflexology body or foot massage to reap some of these benefits.

Get in the picture

Mamas, we have a tendency to always be the picture taker and not in the shot. In May, focus on getting in front of the lens in pictures with your family. You can even try to have a “shoot” of your own in a favorite place in your home, or in your backyard, or wherever. Just make sure to get in the picture.

This is going to be a busy month for you, but make sure to get your self-care in. My list of Self-Care Ideas for May are just what you need to get the ball rolling.
