2013 Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts For Your Kiddos (ages 4-12 years)

2013 Holiday Gift Guide- Gifts For Your Kiddos (ages 4-12 years)

In this edition of our 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, we are focusing on the kids! The holiday season is all about spending time with family, but we also know for kids, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. They anxiously await what may be underneath the tree, and I get such joy seeing that face light up when a gift they have been wanting all year was dropped off by Santa. This year, we’ve accumulated nine (9) gifts that will delight your little one(s).

Check out our 2013 Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts For Your Kiddos (ages 4-12 years)–

ROMO, the Smartphone Robot

I was so excited when I saw a demo of ROMO when I was in New York City in September, that I hounded the PR company about getting one. When it arrived, I didn’t know who was more happy—me or my daughter. ROMO is a tech dream. It’s a robot activated by your iPhone or iPod Touch that can do all sorts of things. Your child can train ROMO to be a roaming photographer, connect with friends and family, and even do their bidding. Kids can also share and create their own unique robot behaviors. Simply download the ROMO app, place your iPhone or IPod Touch on ROMO’s Roving Base and you are ready to go!

ROMO was selected as the 2013 Toyfair Best Tech Toy. Since my daughter has been playing with it, she plays with it continuously and it is encouraging her to use math and science to break through to the next levels. It’s fun, yet educational too!

ROMO is currently available at Brookstone and online. It retails for $149. It is the gift to give this year. Recommended for ages 8 and up. (click here to purchase)

Crayola Marker Maker

I got to see firsthand the Crayola Marker Maker in action when I attended the Time to Play 2013 Holiday Showcase. It is a fun way for kids to make their own markers in a safe way. In three steps (mix, measure, and click), kids can make their own unique colors as well as learn how colors are made. The set comes with a mixing guide, 3 ink bottles, tweezers, measuring tubes, marker boxes, detachable storage tray, and more. It’s like having your own color creation station right at your fingertips. Retails for $18.99. Click here.

The Beatrix Girls

My nine year old daughter loves dolls, and now, there are many options available. The Beatrix Girls Dolls are new on the scene—they are four fabulous and fashionable dolls that perform together as a band. Not only are the dolls cute and fun to play with, but they have a complete storyline online via their website and even a manager who books their gigs. Your little girl will have hours of fun with these dolls. Retails for $24.99 each. Click here.

Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow

I often talk about Girl Power with my daughter and online. I want my daughter to be empowered and feel that she can do anything she sets her mind to. With the popularity of Hunger Games’ Katniss, who is mean with a bow and arrow, comes the Nerf Rebelle line, which features the Heartbreaker Bow; and awesome bow and arrow perfect for girls. My daughter wanted one because she had an archery unit in P.E., and now she can practice at home and get her skills up. She loves it, and the girl on your list will love it too. Retails for around $15.88, Walmart. Click here.

Disney’s Doc McStuffins Get Better Check Up Center from Just Play

This is one of Time to Play’s Most Wanted toys. And deservedly so. What little girl doesn’t like Doc McStuffins? She is an amazing role model and a toy encourages imaginative play. Includes lamb doll, scale, growing chart, X-ray machine, and more. Retails for about $65 at Walmart (click here).

Road Rippers

Boys will be boys. And the remote control Road Rippers line of cars and trucks will have your little guy having tons of fun. The cars are realistic with sounds and controls, and come in a variety of car and trucks types. Prices start at about $9.99. Click here.

Little Bits

Toys that are educational and promote math and science are always on my list for the holidays. The Little Bite Premium Kit is an awesome way for your child to create and construct objects and electronics. You and your kids can play with light, sound, and sensing without the need for wiring or programming. Starter kit retails for $71.20 (click here)

Fairytale High Dolls

Imagine your favorite Disney Princesses during contemporary hight school years. That is what the makers of Fairy Tale High Dolls have done. Eight Disney Princesses in all of their sassy teenage glory. These dolls are hip, trendy, and oh so cool. My nine year old can’t stop talking about them. The 8 dolls available are: Teen Little Mermaid, Teen Alice, Teen Snow White, Teen Rapunzel, Teen Cinderella, Teen Belle, Teen Sleeping Beauty, and Teen Tinkerbell. An interactive website gives you insight into the backstories of these teens before they became princesses with eBooks for each princess. Retails for $17.99 each (click here).

Magformers

Constructive play is all the rage these days—and it should be. Toys that encourage creativity and help develop fine motor skills are important for children. I got to play with Magformers firsthand during the 2013 Time to Play Holiday Showcase and was quite impressed with all of the things you could make with them. Magformers come in a variety of sets and pieces. Visit their site here.
