My Chicklet just turned 10 years old, and she and I have been having “the talk” about all of those girlie things that are surely to happen to her and her body during the next few years. While these conversations can be nerve-wracking for the both of us, they are necessary. I want her to learn about the birds and the bees from me, not from a friend or someone at school. Although I know she and her friends discuss these things, I want her to always feel comfortable talking to me about them.
So when I was approached by Tampax and Always to attend #BeRadiant with Demi Lovato Neon Lights Tour when it stopped in St. Louis, I thought it would be a great opportunity for my daughter and I to continue the conversation and have a great time seeing Demi live, someone who is all about empowering our young girls. Demi’s Neon Lights Tour features major girl-power—with the impressive group Fifth Harmony (from The X Factor) and London pop singer Cher Lloyd, I felt it would be the perfect venue for my daughter to rock out while expressing herself and her tween’dom.
Before the concert, we were able to visit the Tampax Always #BeRadiant Fashion Closet, where we saw styles that showcased fab girl fashion and Demi’s “Wear what you want” motto. Girls should be able to wear what they feel and dress to reflect their individual personalities and style.
In addition, we got to see a dress worn by Demi Lovato. With The Chicklet being the budding fashionista and fashion designer, I thought this was a great way to encourage her girl-power.
The concert was fabulous, and she and I had a ball. Fifth Harmony, Cher Lloyd, and Demi Lovato all brought their A-game. Demi really impressed me with her live vocals and passion on stage. She is a truly a great performer and I am so glad we got the opportunity to see her live.
Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour continues to Grand Rapids, Toronto, Cleveland, Nashville, and Indianapolis before going abroad to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Mexico.

It is so important to have these conversations with our children. The vocabulary, the physical and emotional changes, the street convo, and all should be apart of the chats. Most importantly, having a confident daughter is a healthy daughter.
I totally agree. You want to be proactive when discussing the body and sexuality, not reactive. We’ve been having healthy conversations as she transitions to becoming a young lady. It’s been interesting. But I am so glad she welcomes the conversations. Makes it easier. Thanks for commenting.
